ChatGPT prompt for an artist bio: independent Indian musicians
A prompt that works from your facts, a real output, and what to fix before you use it
Ask ChatGPT for a 120-word artist bio, a short profile description, using only your supplied facts. Tell it to open with your voice or instrument, genre and city, then check every sentence against your fact list.

Who this prompt is for
This prompt is for independent Indian musicians who need a 120-word introduction built from facts they can stand behind. An artist bio is the short profile description used on streaming services, a YouTube channel, a press kit or a label submission.
An EPK, or electronic press kit, is a page or PDF containing your bio, photos, links and music for press and curators. The bio gives those readers a short introduction to your music alongside the material they can hear.
Put your voice or instrument, genre and city in the first sentence. Readers often give a bio only a few seconds on a phone. Those details should arrive before they need to scroll or look elsewhere.
A 120-word bio is around 700 characters. Spotify for Artists allows 1500 characters, so this version leaves room without filling the field. BeatRootRaga artist pages also use bios alongside roles, links and credited releases.
What the prompt needs from you
Start with a fact list, not polished prose. An artist bio is the short description used on streaming profiles, YouTube channels, press kits and label submissions. Give the prompt details you can stand behind:
- Your artist or band name, written as you use it on your profiles.
- Your voice or instrument, musical roles, genre and city.
- Your credited releases and links to your music.
- Your years of training, tradition and teacher, if you want training included.
Voice or instrument, genre and city belong in the first sentence, where readers can find them quickly. Keep training plain. Name a gharana only if you can name the teacher who places you in that tradition.
An EPK (electronic press kit) is a page or PDF bundling your bio, photos, links and music for press and curators. The same facts can support your bio there and your message in BeatRootRaga’s Submit music form.
The prompt
Paste the whole block into ChatGPT, then replace the example facts with your own. Keep the rules at the top; they are what stops the model from inventing. The facts describe a fictional musician, Meera Nair, created for this example.
You are writing an artist bio for a streaming profile. Use only the facts below. Do not add awards, teachers, cities or claims that are not listed. No superlatives, no exclamation marks, no words like "soulful" or "mesmerising". Write 110 to 130 words in third person, present tense. First sentence: instrument or voice, genre, city. Last sentence: what is coming next. Facts (example, replace with your own): - Name: Meera Nair - Voice and instruments: Carnatic-trained vocalist, also plays harmonium - Based in: Kochi, Kerala - Training: 12 years of Carnatic vocal training; no named teacher to be mentioned - Sings in: Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi - Music: acoustic covers of Malayalam film songs and two original ghazals - Released: a single in 2025 on YouTube - Next: a three-song EP of originals planned for 2026
The output
This is the reply the model gave, word for word. It is shown so you can see what a good prompt gets you and what it still gets wrong.
Meera Nair is a Carnatic-trained vocalist based in Kochi, Kerala, with a repertoire of acoustic covers and ghazals. She also plays harmonium and has twelve years of Carnatic vocal training. Her singing spans Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, while her acoustic covers focus on Malayalam film songs. Alongside these covers, her music includes two original ghazals. Her repertoire brings together film songs and original compositions, with both singing and harmonium playing forming part of her musical practice. Her release history includes a single on YouTube in 2025. Her work encompasses covers as well as her own music. Next, she plans to release a three-song EP of originals in 2026.
The critique
Checked sentence by sentence against the eight fact lines in the prompt.
Right: every claim traces to a fact line. No award, teacher, venue or press was invented, which is the main thing the rules were there to stop.
Right: the first sentence carries voice, genre and city, and the last sentence states what is coming next, as asked.
Right: no superlatives and none of the banned words. The only adjective is acoustic, which came from the facts.
Wrong: the length. The reply is 108 words, under the 110-word floor, and two of those sentences are padding. Her repertoire brings together film songs and original compositions and Her work encompasses covers as well as her own music restate earlier sentences and say nothing new.
Wrong: repetition. The harmonium is mentioned twice and the covers four times in a bio of eight sentences. A reader notices.
Missed: the training line asked for no named teacher, and the model obeyed, but it also dropped the tradition from the first sentence. Carnatic-trained reads better as Carnatic vocalist for search.
Change in the prompt: add One fact per sentence, no sentence may restate an earlier one. That removes the padding without any other edit.
Verdict: usable after cutting the two padding sentences. We would not paste it into a profile as it stands.
Adapting the prompt
Add one line to your prompt: “Write this artist bio, a short description for my profiles, in Hindi.” Swap Hindi for Malayalam if that is your profile language. The prompt works in any language the model writes well; keep the supplied facts unchanged.
- Keep your name and other facts in the script you use on your profiles.
- Add: “Leave raga and instrument names untranslated.”
- Keep the opening sentence focused on your voice or instrument, genre and city.
- Ask for 120 words, then check every sentence against your facts before using it.
Spotify for Artists gives you 1500 characters for the bio. A 120-word version is around 700 characters, leaving room without filling the field. Treat that estimate as a guide, not a substitute for checking the final character count, especially after requesting another language.
Questions people ask
What facts should I give ChatGPT for my artist bio?
Supply your name, roles, voice or instruments, genre and city, plus any training and releases you can verify. Ask for voice or instrument, genre and city in the first sentence. The bio can also go in your EPK (electronic press kit), a page or PDF bundling your bio, photos, links and music for press and curators.
How long should my Spotify artist bio be?
A 120-word bio is a useful target, at around 700 characters. Spotify for Artists allows 1500 characters, so you do not need to fill the field. Edit the bio in the app's Profile section; it updates when saved.
Can ChatGPT write my artist bio in Hindi or Malayalam?
Add a line asking for the bio in Hindi or Malayalam. Keep your supplied facts in the script you use on your profiles, and leave raga and instrument names untranslated. This approach works in languages the model writes well.
What do AI-written artist bios get wrong?
Language models can invent an award, a tour or a teacher you never mentioned. They can also fill missing details with flattery. Check every sentence against your supplied facts before using the bio anywhere.
How should I describe my musical training and lineage?
State your years of training and tradition as plain facts. Include a named gharana, or musical lineage, only when you can name the teacher who places you in it. Other musicians check lineage claims, so leave unsupported claims out.
