Vocal remover
Upload a song and take the voice out. You get the instrumental for karaoke or practice, and the isolated vocal as an acapella, both as WAV files. Hear a 21-second preview of the separation before you process the full song.
This page needs JavaScript for the tool itself. Open it in a browser to use it.
How it works
Upload an MP3, WAV, FLAC or AIFF file. The tool separates one energetic section and plays you the instrumental and the vocal so you can judge the result. If you like it, process the whole song; the files appear in your dashboard when they are ready.
Karaoke track or acapella
Vocal removal gives you both at once: the instrumental with the voice taken out, and the vocal on its own. Sing over the instrumental, study a singer's phrasing with the instruments gone, or use the acapella in a remix.
When you need more than vocals
The same engine can split a song into vocals, drums, bass and everything else. Choose 4 stems on the preview screen, or use the stem splitter page, which is built around that workflow.
Made for singers
BeatRootRaga is an independent label that records ghazals, Indian classical and film-song covers. The vocal remover began as the label's own practice tool for singers learning a song from a reference recording, and the Learn section explains how to turn that into a finished cover.

All guidesTeentaal: the 16-beat cycle of Hindustani music
Teentaal is a 16-beat Hindustani rhythmic cycle counted in four groups of four, with claps on 1, 5 and 13, and a wave on 9. Its theka, or basic tabla stroke pattern, is dha dhin dhin dha | dha dhin dhin dha | dha tin tin ta | ta dhin dhin dha.
Taal for beginners: teentaal, keherwa and dadra with clap patterns
A taal is a repeating rhythmic cycle: count 16 beats for teentaal, eight for keherwa, and six for dadra. For teentaal, clap on 1, 5 and 13, wave on 9; for keherwa, clap on 1, wave on 5; for dadra, clap on 1, wave on 4.
Rupak: the 7-beat taal that starts on khali
Rupak is a taal, or repeating rhythmic cycle, with seven beats grouped 3 + 2 + 2. Its opening closed strokes make sam, the first beat, sound light; this beat is khali, marked by a wave, rather than tali, marked by a clap.
Keherwa: the 8-beat taal of film songs, bhajans and folk
Keherwa is an eight-beat taal, or repeating rhythmic cycle, arranged as 4 + 4. To recognise it, listen for two groups of four, a lighter second half, and the recurring drum pattern: dha ge na ti | na ka dhin na.
Jhaptaal: the 10-beat taal
Jhaptaal is a taal, a repeating rhythmic cycle, with ten beats. Its four vibhags, or divisions, follow 2 + 3 + 2 + 3, alternating two-beat and three-beat groups.
Ektaal: the 12-beat taal of khayal
Ektaal is a twelve-beat taal, or repeating rhythmic cycle, divided into six two-beat sections called vibhags. Its stretched beats let the tabla player elaborate the stroke pattern in vilambit (slow-tempo) bada khayal, the slow opening composition of a khayal performance.
Questions people ask
Is the BeatRootRaga vocal remover free?
Yes. Upload a song and hear a 21-second preview of the instrumental and the isolated vocal without signing up. An account is needed to process the full song and download the files, so they can be kept in your dashboard.
How does the BeatRootRaga vocal remover take the vocals out of a song?
An AI model (Demucs, an open-source hybrid transformer for music source separation) listens to the mix and separates the voice from the instruments. You get the instrumental without the vocal, and the vocal on its own, as separate WAV files.
Can the vocal remover make a karaoke track from any song?
You can separate any song you upload. How clean the result is depends on the recording: dense mixes with heavy effects on the voice keep more traces than a clean studio vocal. The preview lets you judge before you process the whole song.
Does the BeatRootRaga vocal remover also give me the acapella?
Yes. Vocal removal produces both files: the instrumental with the voice taken out, and the isolated vocal (acapella). If you also want drums, bass and the other instruments as separate files, choose 4 stems.
Which formats does the vocal remover accept, and what does it return?
MP3, WAV, FLAC and AIFF up to 100 MB. Each result is a stereo WAV at 44.1 kHz, the same length as your song, playable in your dashboard and downloadable individually.
Can I use the instrumental or the vocal from the vocal remover commercially?
Removing the vocal does not change who owns the recording. Use the results only for music you own, have permission to use, or that is licensed for your purpose. Karaoke practice and study are the usual uses.
